Feeding Cats and Dogs

Proper feeding for cats and dogs varies depending on their age, breed, and activity level. But there’s one simple rule: small portions, regularly. 💚

Daily Feeding Schedule for Cats 🐱

Cats naturally eat small but frequent meals. In the wild, they catch small prey throughout the day, so their stomach capacity is quite small.

Ideal feeding routine by age 🍼

- 0–2 months: 6–8 meals. Mother’s milk or kitten formula every 3 hours. - 2–6 months: 3–4 meals. Use kitten food; keep portions small. - 6–12 months: 2–3 meals. Gradually transition to an adult routine. - 1 year and older: 2 meals (morning and evening). Splitting the daily portion in two is ideal. - 7 years and older: 2–3 smaller meals to make digestion easier.

Tip💡

- If food is available at all times, your cat can adapt to “free feeding.” However, if there’s a tendency to gain weight, measured portions and fixed feeding times are the healthiest choice.

Daily Feeding Schedule for Dogs 🐶

Dogs have a larger stomach capacity than cats, so they can be fed fewer meals throughout the day.

Ideal feeding routine by age 🍼

- 0–2 months: 4–6 meals. Mother’s milk or puppy formula, small and frequent portions. - 2–6 months: 3–4 meals. Puppy food should be given regularly as growth is rapid. - 6–12 months: 2–3 meals. Smaller breeds may need more frequent meals. - 1 year and older: 2 meals (morning and evening). This is the most balanced schedule. - 7 years and older: 2 meals. Choose easily digestible and low-calorie food.

Extra Information 💡

- Large breeds (e.g., Golden Retriever, Labrador, German Shepherd) do well with 2 meals per day. - Small breeds (e.g., Pomeranian, Chihuahua) benefit from 3 small meals a day. - Avoid feeding right before or after exercise, especially in large breeds prone to stomach torsion.

General Feeding Guidelines 🩺

- Feed at the same times each day — this helps build a digestion routine. - Adjust the portion size according to the feeding chart on the food package. - Always keep the water bowl full and clean. - Do not leave uneaten food out for too long, wet food spoils quickly.

Remember:

Proper feeding is the foundation of a healthy, energetic, and happy life for your furry friends. 💚
